Everyone keeps asking me why I am so obsessed to lose weight. Well, two years ago I used to be very skinny, and after I went to the states with work and travel program, I gained a lot of weight. All this time I have been trying to have the same weight I had 2 years ago. It is not that I was obsessed to get as skinny as possible; I was just trying to have the same metabolism I once had and writing a blog about my weight loss plan was something that I was planning to do a long time ago.
So here I am now, writing the last blog post of my long journey. I cannot believe the semester is almost over. I remember like it was yesterday when I lost my first pound on the first week of my 3 months journey.
“Actually there is no scientifically based diet about reducing weight which is based on less than three meals. It is mandatory to have at least three meals per day starting from breakfast,”said Ventislav Daskalov, a doctor at AUBG.
During the second week I didn’t lose any pounds. I thought that it would be easier for me to lose weight just giving up some foods, but I realized that I had to push myself and try harder. Gym was the right place to go. I got a lot of recommendations to go to the gym, especially from Anastasia Babich, a junior at AUBG.
“The first thing you should do is grab a friend, and go together. The company is very important because you keep up each other, you try to do everything better than the other person so there is a competition between you,” she said.
In the following weeks, I lost 4 pounds. Then, after the spring break, I went to Thessaloniki. After staying there for 4 days and eating the most terrible things you can imagine, I gained 2 pounds! After gaining those two damn pounds, I started to control myself and I did lose around 1 pound the next week by just choosing healthy foods, drinking only water, getting enough sleep and exercising a lot. I didn’t follow any diet and it worked for me.
It was 25th of March and I had 11 more pounds to lose in just one month. It was kind of impossible, but I kept doing my best. I tried different kind of diets including the flower diet, which helped me lose 2 more pounds. According to this article, the secret why Flower Diet works lies in human physiology:

Juice fast diet changed my life. When Mikael said that this diet changed her life, I asked myself: “How can a diet change your life?” This one did, definitively. It changed my way of thinking. I get tempted very easily sometimes, but after I started this diet, I didn’t even wanted to think about eating unhealthy food. After this diet I lost 3 more pounds. I had 2 more weeks left and 6 more pounds to lose.
My journey was going pretty well but I started to gain weight again after the juice diet. And my weight kept changing up and down in the last two weeks… In the end I couldn’t reach my goal. I lost some pounds, but not as much as I wished to lose. What I understood from my journey is that diets are not the right thing to do when you decide to lose weight.
Diets help you a lot if you need to lose weight fast but they are not healthy for your body. You will keep losing and gaining weight all the time like me, and believe me, it is frustrating. I knew from the beginning that the only rule that works is healthy food choice plus exercise, but I was hoping that diets would help me achieve my goal faster and it didn’t happened. Now, I am basically done with diets. I’ll just keep exercising and eating healthily. That’s the only way that works, and the only one that lasts.
