Say Goodbye to Diets and Say Goodbye to Me.

Everyone keeps asking me why I am so obsessed to lose weight. Well, two years ago I used to be very skinny, and after I went to the states with work and travel program, I gained a lot of weight. All this time I have been trying to have the same weight I had 2 years ago. It is not that I was obsessed to get as skinny as possible; I was just trying to have the same metabolism I once had and writing a blog about my weight loss plan was something that I was planning to do a long time ago.

So here I am now, writing the last blog post of my long journey. I cannot believe the semester is almost over. I remember like it was yesterday when I lost my first pound on the first week of my 3 months journey.

 “Actually there is no scientifically based diet about reducing weight which is based on less than three meals. It is mandatory to have at least three meals per day starting from breakfast,”said Ventislav Daskalov, a doctor at AUBG.

During the second week I didn’t lose any pounds. I thought that it would be easier for me to lose weight just giving up some foods, but I realized that I had to push myself and try harder. Gym was the right place to go. I got a lot of recommendations to go to the gym, especially from Anastasia Babich, a junior at AUBG.

“The first thing you should do is grab a friend, and go together. The company is very important because you keep up each other, you try to do everything better than the other person so there is a competition between you,” she said.

In the following weeks, I lost 4 pounds. Then, after the spring break, I went to Thessaloniki. After staying there for 4 days and eating the most terrible things you can imagine, I gained 2 pounds! After gaining those two damn pounds, I started to control myself and I did lose around 1 pound the next week by just choosing healthy foods, drinking only water, getting enough sleep and exercising a lot. I didn’t follow any diet and it worked for me.

It was 25th of March and I had 11 more pounds to lose in just one month. It was kind of impossible, but I kept doing my best. I tried different kind of diets including the flower diet, which helped me lose 2 more pounds. According to this article, the secret why Flower Diet works lies in human physiology:

“Each of the mono-diet allowance does not contaminate the body, because it does not contain incompatible products, and a monotonous diet boosts the process of losing weight (this is confirmed by studies conducted by the European Center for weight loss). If a mono-diet lasts no longer than a day, it included subtle internal mechanisms that cause the body to burn actively own fat reserves.”

After the Flower diet, I tried Juice fast diet.

“Juice diets are for detoxing and you should do it for three days max. You shouldn’t do it more than twice a year,” said Mikael Rose Corbin, an exchange student from Louisiana.

Juice fast diet changed my life. When Mikael said that this diet changed her life, I asked myself: “How can a diet change your life?” This one did, definitively. It changed my way of thinking. I get tempted very easily sometimes, but after I started this diet, I didn’t even wanted to think about eating unhealthy food. After this diet I lost 3 more pounds. I had 2 more weeks left and 6 more pounds to lose.

My journey was going pretty well but I started to gain weight again after the juice diet. And my weight kept changing up and down in the last two weeks… In the end I couldn’t reach my goal. I lost some pounds, but not as much as I wished to lose. What I understood from my journey is that diets are not the right thing to do when you decide to lose weight.

Diets help you a lot if you need to lose weight fast but they are not healthy for your body. You will keep losing and gaining weight all the time like me, and believe me, it is frustrating. I knew from the beginning that the only rule that works is healthy food choice plus exercise, but I was hoping that diets would help me achieve my goal faster and it didn’t happened. Now, I am basically done with diets. I’ll just keep exercising and eating healthily. That’s the only way that works, and the only one that lasts. So, say goodbye to diets, and say goodbye to me… Good luck and enjoy the video! 😉

6 more to GO!!!

Juice fast diet changed my life totally!! When Mikael said on my previous post that this diet changed her life, I asked myself: “How can a diet change your life?” This one does, definitively. It changed my way of thinking. I get tempted very easily sometimes, but after i started this diet, i didn’t even want to think about eating unhealthy food. After I did the juice fast diet for 3 days, all I could think of was to find new recipes for green smoothies and to try new healthy things everyday.

At first I thought that this diet included fruits and vegetables too. So on Monday, before going to buy the stuff I needed for smoothies, I was eating fruits. Wrong!! You are not allowed to eat anything while you are on a juice fast diet. So Monday didn’t count and I had to start it for real on Tuesday. I kept drinking  smoothies for the rest of the week, but I added salads, vegetables and fruits to my diet. Overall I lost 3 pounds. Now I have 6 more pounds to lose and I have just 2 weeks left!

Here is the list of the things Mikael and I bought:

Bananas, apples, avocados, oranges, ginger roots, strawberries, cucumbers, carrots, melons, limes, garlic, spinach and ice.

With these ingredients you can basically do any kind of juice fast recipes. Below are some recipes Mikael suggested me:

Green Garlic Monster

½ Cucumber

2 Large Handfuls of Spinach11

½ Cup Cabbage

3 Carrots

1 Garlic Clove

GINGER

131 inch slice ginger root

Juice from 1 fresh lemon

6 carrots with tops

1 seeded apple12

Beet Cool : Body Detox Juice

½ Beet

½ Cucumber

5 Carrots

14Beets regenerate red blood cells and are fantastic for flushing toxins, but should be used sparingly and always in the company of other fruit or vegetables that make up the majority of the drink. Cucumber juice has a very light and refreshing taste. One of its more superficial benefits is that it has been suggested its inclusion may make for a juicing recipe for hair growth.

I almost forgot to tell you that I bought a blender. Now I can make smoothies anytime I want because I am planning to keep doing this king of diet : Smoothies, salads, fruits and vegetables for the following weeks.

Juice Fasting Diet

I lost 10 pounds last week !!!!! I am soooo happy 😀

Happy April 1st!!  😀 I wish I lost 10 pounds 🙂

It was just a joke but I did lose a few pounds after the flower diet. Unlike my friend Kseniya who lost 7 pounds, I lost only 2. I think I didn’t have the same result as her because I created my own flower diet and didn’t eat the exact things Kseniya did.

What I learned from this diet is that you don’t get bored while you do it because you eat different type of food each day, but this is not a long lasting diet. For me it was very hard to eat the same thing for the whole day. Sometimes I even forgot what to eat during the day so I had to read my own Flower diet post to remember what I was supposed to eat on that day.

The Flower diet is not a diet that I would suggest you to keep for a juicerlong time, but if you really need to lose weight, the flower diet helps you a lot. For this week I have a complete new plan. It is called Juice fast diet. Juice fasts have been known to shower us with countless benefits:

“From detoxing the body to cleansing your intestines and giving your digestive system a rest.”

It helps you lose some stubborn weight, clear your skin and it also brings inner peace and quiet to your mind. As you may guess, juice fasting takes preparation, time and investment. You got to be committed or it won’t work and there is no such thing as cheating on a fast, as there is on other diets. You either do it all the way or you don’t.

That’s the question that raises the most eyebrows and rolls the most eyes of my close friends circle and perhaps for you too, so let’s talk about it. I generally like the discipline, the intensity and the extremity of the experience you have when you really immerse yourself in it. Whether it is yoga, indoor cycling, or even writing and working, immersion is the way to get the true taste of experience.

I like to take a minute here to praise my dear friend, Mikael Rose Corbin who has done this kind of diet several times.

11 more to go!!!

After gaining those two damn pounds, I started to control myself and I did lose around 1 pound this week. I didn’t keep any specific diet. I was just choosing healthy foods, drinking only water, getting enough sleep and exercising.

Last week I may say that I had four cheat days. So, instead of one Saturday, I had four Saturdays :S This week I punished myself by going on hiking on Saturday. I went to Dobrava village with a bunch of other students. We started hiking around 10 a.m. and came back at 2 p.m. The whole loop was supposed to be 12 Km, but we kind of lost somehow, so it took us more than 12 Km.

Next week I will keep the flower diet. This time I will follow the rules, I promise! 😀

A quick summary: After losing 5 pounds, I gained 2 pounds, and this week I lost another one. So until now, I have lost 4 pounds. I have 11 more pounds to lose in just one month. It is kind of impossible, but I will try to do my best.

Shame on me!

It turned out I was a big winner last week… yes, a BIG winner. I gained 2 pounds in just 4 days.

I started the flower diet for the first five days and everything went well from Monday till Thursday. Then, on Friday, I went to Thessaloniki and here is what happened:IMG_0571

While we were on the bus, my professor, Melody Gilbert, offered me and other students, different kind of ‘healthy’ foods like: potato chips, sandwiches, peanut butter, etc. I passed the tempting test because I refused everything she offered me. I was very strict and I kept saying to myself: Just turn your head to the left, then to the right, and keep doing this exercise every time she offers you something.

After we arrived, we had to buy the tickets and get something to eat very quickly because the first documentary we were planning to watch was going to start in half an hour. So we were looking for places near the theater and after considering our opportunities, we chose a ‘special’ place to eat… you can judge from the picture below:IMG_5249

So I broke the ‘Flower’ diet rules the first day but I promised myself that on the next three days I would chose more wisely. Guess what… It never happened! I kept buying the unhealthiest things possible you can imagine. And I am not going to justify myself by saying that I didn’t eat healthily because I didn’t have time. I just couldn’t resist. I couldn’t! :S I knew that I would regret it a lot after I get back to Blagoevgrad, but I also knew that I would regret it more if I didn’t try all those yummy things in front of me.  I might never get back to Thessaloniki again, so, I just enjoyed my time there and I didn’t care much what I was eating.

Flower Diet

So I decided to do the Flower diet. If you don’t know what this diet is, check my previous post.

Here is the Flower diet plan:  

3105705-concept-diet-dinner-with-two-toy-fish-knife-and-fork-and-flower-on-white-plate First day: any kind of fish. This product can be stewed, steamed, boiled, baked in the oven. You may use fish broth, spices, salt and herbs.

• Second day: any vegetables (boiled, steamed, baked, fresh) and the juices with their participation, as well as herbs and mild spices. If desired, you can use salt (small amount).

• Third day: chicken without skin, and chicken broth, fresh herbs, mild spices and salt.

• Fourth day: any cereal, sprouted grains and seeds, cereals, grains, bread, fiber and bran. You can drink the water and brew. Herbs to flavor foods are allowed, and salt.

• Fifth day: low fat cottage cheese and just the same milk.

• Sixth day: fruit (fresh baked) and juice with their participation (no sugar added). Acceptable use of spices (vanilla, cinnamon, etc.).

Here is my plan:


• First day: Tuna. I will eat only tuna for the whole day. 
Oh well, what can I say… I just love tuna 😀

• Second day: Sweet red peppers all day long! (It sounds strange, I know )

• Third day: Any food made out of chicken.

• Fourth day: Fig Marmalade day

• Fifth day: Low-fat cheese and milk.

• Sixth day: It’s Saturdayyyy!! No rules for Saturday 😀

• Seventh day: Only fruits.

You may choose to do my plan or start doing exactly what the Flower diet says. Just remember to drink plenty of water throughout the diet.

Spring break post/ New Diet

My family just left. 😦  I was just hoping that the food they brought was gone with them too, but no, it is still here, in my room, less than 2 meters away :S

I did not post earlier, because I wanted to get some results after the 6 days that my family was here with me. I didn’t weigh myself ’til 5 min. ago. The truth is that I was not even expecting to lose weight the first moment I saw all the things my mom brought. (I even took pictures of the things she had cooked for me but I will not post any of them. I don’t want you guys to get hungry and then blame me :D) Actually, I was just hoping not to gain any pounds. 😀 Here is what happened: I didn’t gain and I didn’t lose. I never thought I would get so happy for having the same weight after a week.

Kseniya, a  junior at AUBG was keeping an interesting diet last week that I wanted to share with you.  She was eating just one type of food for 4 days.

 “It included only 4 different 1-day mono-diets. On the 4th day I could eat cakes, macaroni, bread, cookies, crackers, everything made with flour and chocolate of course.”

 

She had some disadvantages though. She had to follow the time and the menu and she couldn’t include or exclude anything. She also went to the gym for 1-1.5 hours per day. In the end she lost 7 pounds!! Unbelievable!! Good job Kseniya!

Tomorrow she is going to start a new diet, similar with the one she did last week. It is called Flower Diet. It includes 6 different 1-day mono-diets.

Kseniya said that the previous diet she was doing was very boring. She was getting tired eating the same type of food for 4 days and she didn’t like spending time on deciding how much and when to eat.

“I think Flower diet won’t be boring and hard, since every day will consist of a different kind of food.”

According to her, this diet is usually recommended for everyone once in a while. It seems very promising. I will try this kind of diet after I see Kseniyas’ results. For the coming week I am planning to do a similar diet that Kseniya is doing, but eating other things.

My journey so far :)

As I said in the very beginning, this is the first time I write a blog. I was excited and scared at first because I didn’t know how to write a blog and IMG_4397how to attract more readers. But then, when I was asked to choose a topic for my blog, things changed. Choosing to write about a weight loss plan made me feel more confident after watching “The Biggest Loser” show and  reading a lot of articles about weight loss during the winter break. I always wanted to write a blog about my own weight loss plan, so I am very happy that now I have this chance.

My first post was about deciding whether you need to lose weight or not. If you are still reading my posts, it means you are trying to lose weight (my classmates and some other bloggers are not included, since they read this blog just for fun).

I started with some baby steps and I did a different plan for every week. What didn’t change during my journey was my breakfast. I have been eating whatever I wanted for breakfast and I never skipped one.

“It might sound dumb but in this way you are aware of what you are eating and drinking.”

So that’s exactly what I did. I asked my roommate to go to the gym together. She didn’t want to go at first, but then I told her that she really needs to lose weight, (I am mean, I know :D). So she came to the gym with me and 2 more pounds are gone now!!!

So far I have lost 5 pounds!! I should have gone to the gym a long time ago, but still, I proved that it is possible to lose weight without going to the gym. You might not afford the gym for example, or you just don’t like to go there, so there is hope for you too. Gym really helps you, but it is not the number one factor that makes you lose weight, so don’t justify yourself by saying that you don’t have access to the gym. If you really want to lose weight, you can. There is no excuse!

Next week is the Spring break and my family is coming here on campus. Yeyyyy! I bet my mom is bringing some homemade food with her that I cannot resist, but I will try to do my best and follow my last week weight-loss plan.
